Late Period, ca. 664-332 BC. A sculpted pottery head of a bull symbolizing the divinity Apis, featuring wonderfully carved facial features, ears, and horns. It would be a throne armrest, the reduced horns of this piece are the result of this use. The animal's head is mounted on a custom-made stand, allowing for its striking presence to be fully appreciated. The bull's eyes are deeply incised, giving the impression of a powerful and alert gaze, while lines beneath the eyes and along the snout suggest a sense of ferocity and strength. The gently curved snout, slits for nostrils, and thin, slightly parted mouth with outward bulges to indicate lips complete the animal's imposing yet elegant visage.
