A FAMILLE ROSE ‘LADY AND CHILD’ SNUFF BOTTLE, JINGDEZHEN KILNS, REPUBLIC PERIOD
China, 1912-1949. Delicately potted from near-eggshell thin ware, the ovoid body raised on a short foot and rising to a waisted neck with a gilt lip. The circular base deeply recessed. Finely enameled to the exterior to one side with a lady and child in bright robes and to the other with a boy seated by a craggy rock and playing the flute, all within a scenic river landscape in the background.

Excellent condition with minimal wear and firing irregularities, minor rubbing to the gilt foot.

The base with an apocryphal iron-red four-character mark Qianlong nianzhi painted in iron red to the base.


Expert’s note:
The quality of the painting, particularly the borders, is somewhat reminiscent of the work of Ye Bengqi. Most enameled glass snuff bottles created by this master show highly accurate workmanship, full control of the polychrome enamels, and a distinct 18th century Imperial style, all features also found in the present bottle. However, no porcelain snuff bottles made by Ye Bengqi appear to be recorded, which is why this author believes that the present lot may date from a slightly earlier time in the Republic period.

民國粉彩《母子人物》鼻煙壺

中國，1912 -1949 年。薄胎瓷器鼻煙壺，弦唇，縮頸，豐肩，腹部下内斂，圓形圈足。壺身精美琺瑯描繪風景如畫的花園中，婦人兒童場景。一側是一位穿著精緻外袍的夫人一手摟著一個小童陪他玩耍。旁邊有一個小男孩正在吹笛子。
