A DAMASK AND WOVEN SILK ‘LOTUS’ COVER, MID-QING DYNASTY
China, late 18th to 19th century. Finely woven using a shimmering silk of supreme quality and pale-buff tone. Decorated with a central lotus medallion surrounded by blossoms, bats, lingzhi, and auspicious symbols, flanked on both sides by two similar roundels, enclosed by a rectangular frame similarly decorated with interlocking dragons, all against a damask ground decorated overall with a diapered wan pattern.


Provenance:
An important private collection of an American connoisseur and collector of Chinese robes, and thence by descent in the family.

Condition:
Superb condition with only minimal wear and soiling, few loose threads.

such as the present lot typically served as bed and furniture covers during the Qing dynasty. Many were also custom-made for export.

清代中期錦緞絲綢蓮花紋罩

中國，十八世紀末至十九世紀。 採用優質的絲綢精細編織而成，淺黃色地，中央飾蓮花圖案，周圍環繞花朵、蝙蝠、靈芝和吉祥符號，五個團花紋。長方形框架，同樣飾龍紋。
