1st century BC-1st century AD. A bronze figurine of probably Juno (Greek Hera) in her role as tutelary goddess, wearing a floor-length Ionic chiton and peplos gathered at the shoulders with brooches; the left arm bent, the right arm hanging loosely with scroll(?) held in the hand, head turned slightly to the left with wreath to the brow; socket to the underside. Cf. Rolland, H. Bronzes Antiques de Haute Provence, Paris, 1965, item 147 for type. 107 grams, 80mm (3 1/4"). Property of a Newmarket, UK collector; by inheritance before 1999. Fine condition.
