1st century BC-1st century AD. A bronze vessel handle comprising a vine-leaf plaque with splayed trefoil above, D-section gently curved handle with raised bulb, divided lower shank with vine-leaf finials flanking a female bust (Maenad?) in three-quart view modelled with diadem and hanks of hair descending to the shoulders, chiton fastened at the left shoulder exposing the right breast. Cf. Rolland, H. Bronzes Antiques de Haute Provence, Paris, 1965, item 291 for type. 1 kg, 36cm (14 1/4"). From the collection of a North London gentleman; acquired in the 1980s. Fine condition.
