Description
Translation provided by Youdao
This is a thermoplastic union case with a daguerreotype of a couple, probably husband and wife. The ambrotype is a sixth plate, and the embossed covers depict Cupid with a wounded stag; the motif is repeated on front and back (Krainik 153, Cupid and the wounded Stag). The velvet lining is soft and attractive, and the corners of the case are nicely rounded (Krainik 154 has the same cover design, but the case has square corners). The clasp is snug, with a hairline crack near the clasp. The case was made by Littlefield Parsons in the 1850’s and measures 3 5/16 x 3 3/4 in. wide.
