A Scandinavian Viking sword, 9th/10th century The sturdy, double-edged blade with a core of four forge-welded rods in wild Damascus, the lateral cutting edges attached separately. The sturdy, short quillons with a medial ridge, the arms tapering conically outwards. Conically tapering tang, the flat pommel forged in one piece. The blade slightly twisted near the point, minor imperfections along the cutting edge, a corrosion perforation near the point. Length 94 cm.Provenance: From a private French collection, acquired during the 1970s in Paris.Condition: III -
