A southern German hunting sword (boar sword), circa 1530 Broad double-edged blade of flattened diamond section. The base of the long, slightly curved ricasso with rectangular opening for the missing cross bar. S-shaped quillons with fullered finials. On the side finger guard with finely fullered lower guard bar, on the opposite side a finger bar. Grip with original leather cover above wire wrap. Pommel with fine helical grooves and original rivets. Length 131 cm.Beautiful original hunting weapon of which mostly only copies are available. An object with identical swept hilt can be found in the collection of the Museum of Art History in Vienna. Cf.
