8th-9th century A.D. A bronze dress pinposed of a round-section stem which expands towards the terminal creating a shallow collar, then tapers to a sharp point, undecorated spherical head. Cf. Hinton, D.A., Southampton Finds: The Gold, Silver and Other Non-Ferrous Alloy Objects From Hamwic, and Stroud, the Non-Ferrous Metalworking Evidence, Sutton Publishing, 1996, Types Aa1ii; Aa2ii and Aa2iii, for similar pins found in Southampton. 1.95 grams, 45 mm (1 3/4 in.) Found whilst searching with a metal detector, Isle of Wight, UK, on 21 August 2013. Recorded by Isle of Wight Portable Antiquities Scheme Liaison Officer with reference numbers SZ 39726 and BNG 86992. Apanied by a copy of the Portable Antiquities Scheme report number IOW-A11D47.
