5th-6th century A.D. A gilt saucer-shaped button brooch decorated with what is likely a central stylised helmetted human bust right, with a rounded helmet, round eye, curving eye-ring and a rounded cheek, helmet with evenly spaced annulets, punched dots to the raised elements of the face; remains of pin lug and catchplate to reverse, lug orientated at roughly 2 o'clock. 2.13 grams, 13 mm wide (1/2 in.) Found whilst searching with a metal detector, Isle of Wight, UK, on 22 February 2019. Recorded by Isle of Wight Portable Antiquities Scheme Liaison Officer with reference numbers SZ 39605 and BNG 85508. Apanied by a copy of Portable Antiquities Scheme report no.IOW-655D49.
