JULIO BAUZA (Uruguay, 1936). "Geométricas cromáticas, Primavera". Wood and acrylic on Fabriano paper. Signed and titled in the lower area. Measurements: 44,5 x 44,5 cm. The piece presents forty-nine cubes whose colour degrades from the outside to the inside, starting from a more intense shade of green to a lighter one. The piece shows a great interest in the volumetric study and the incidence of colour on form. Thus creating a sculptural image. Painter, ceramist, writer and sculptor Julio Bauza received his doctorate in architecture from the University of Montevideo in 1974. In 1975 he travelled to France where he studied Archaeology at the University of Aix and in 1976 he went on holiday to Ibiza, where he has lived for the last 40 years. His early artistic research was characterised by his work in ceramics, and later, in the 1990s, he began to work on planes. About his work, the writer Carlos García-Osuna has commented: "Those who approach Bauzá s work will become aware that his break with figurative art is indisputable, as well as his use of waste materials to which he gives a new formulation, a brand new language that determines a step forward in a poetics of apparent vulgarity, which he imbues with a symbolism in which the imagination is a form as multiple as the thoughts that have determined it in the artistic sphere since the beginning of the 20th century". Since 1980 he has exhibited in various galleries in Ibiza, Barcelona and Madrid, with the exhibition Geometrías cromáticas , held at the Madrid gallery Marita Segovia in 2015, standing out.
