A Chinese Cizhou pottery sgraffito vase , meiping , Northern Song or Jin Dynasty, circa 1100-1200, applied overall with a thick brownish-black glaze, carved through to the buff body leaving a broad foliate scroll band, the short neck with two handles, with Radcliffe collection label 'D1' and exhibition labels for New Zealand 1936, Cape Town 1953 and BADA, 21cm high Provenance: Dr Lindley M. Scott collection, Sotheby's, London, 4th July, 1945, lot 22, where purchased by Bluetts on commission for Major Edward Copleston Radcliffe (1898-1967) and then by family descent.
