Description: A small cloisonné vase with high, rounded shoulders in the Chinese meiping style. The almost black, deep midnight blue background shows a very finely arranged composition of round fruit and blossoms with leaves and butterflies fluttering in between, all in a multitude of colors. Geometrical, floral bordure around the foot; spirals around the short neck. Silver mark KYO-TO 京 都 NAMI-KAWA 並 河 on the gilded base. Namikawa Yasuyuki (1845-1927) was one of the most famous and brilliant Japanese cloisonné artists. 1886 he was awarded the honorary title of ‘Teishitsu Gigeiin’ (artist-craftsman to the imperial household). Condition: Very good condition Provenance: From an Austrian private collection This fine selection of Japanese cloisonné pieces (nos. 16-33) comes from an art dealer’s collection who acquired the pieces over 15 years, most of them from Austrian flea markets, fairs and estates. He developed a passion and deep understanding for the incredibly cumbersome technique of cloisonné which is reflected in the selection, featuring the great names of Namikawa Yasuyuki and Namikawa Sosuke.
