Description: A small, elegantly shaped cloisonné vase, conically tapering towards the shoulder with a small, concave neck. Deep, dark blue background with finely painted cherry tree and bird. A cherry, sakura, with branches on a gnarly trunk. The small bird – with gold wire – is high up in the sky. Bordures with rows of leaves around the foot and mouth. The elegance of this piece is enhanced even further by the gilded base and mouth interior. Condition: Very good condition Provenance: From an Austrian private collection This fine selection of Japanese cloisonné pieces (nos. 16-33) comes from an art dealer’s collection who acquired the pieces over 15 years, most of them from Austrian flea markets, fairs and estates. He developed a passion and deep understanding for the incredibly cumbersome technique of cloisonné which is reflected in the selection, featuring the great names of Namikawa Yasuyuki and Namikawa Sosuke.
