Description: This work was painted after the Chinese painter Shen Quan, who lived until 1760 and had many students in Japan. A brown and a black horse, one calmly yet curiously looking towards the other, which struggles with the servant boy trying to pull it through the water, under a willow tree blowing in the wind. Inscription indicating the Qianlong era on the top left. The left line shows the name NAN-PIN SHEN QUAN 南 蘋 沈 銓, the lowest character sha 寫, ‘painted after’. Mounted with silk brocade, ivory jikusaki. Condition: Good condition Provenance: From an Austrian private collection
