Description: The Usofuki is a kyogen character, who performs in the comical interludes of Noh drama. Known for his whistling, the form of the mouth here is typical. Hollowed out at the rear side, no himotoshi or ‘bridge’ as is usual for mask netsuke. The main characteristics of a Beshimi mask are the narrow mouth and large, staring eyes; bushy, elegantly curved eyebrows and wide nostrils. A finely crafted work, fully hollowed out on the rear side but no himotoshi or ‘bridge’. Condition: Good condition Provenance: From a German private collection
