Description: Blade: Iorimune with shinogizukuri, hada and hamon no longer recognizable. Mountings: Splendid and with considerable gold. The gold lacquer saya (sheath) displays the Aoi mon (hollyhock crest) of the Tokugawa shoguns. The many individual pieces composing the courtly mounting feature the finest chasework, multiple floral motifs. The shitogi-tsuba is box shaped and completely golden, as is the fuchikashira. These courtly mountings come from the late Edo period. Condition: Good condition, subtle wear due to age, with minor rust on the blade Provenance: From an Austrian private collection
