Description: Shirasagi, “White Heron” Kachô-e. Original woodblock print, published during 1900’s. Seal: Yoshikuni (Biho) No information is available about this artist, other than the laconic note, "Bihô, also known as Yoshikuni, designed Russo-Japanese War prints, published by Matsuki Heikichi in 1904". Biho or Yoshikuni are merely alternative readings of the same kanji. In addition to his images reporting on the war, there exist a handful of bird images in square shikishiban format, probably also printed by Matsuki Heikichi. Framed inside a gold painted frame with passe-partout. Condition: Good condition Provenance: From an Austrian private collection, purchased in the Galerie Zacke in the 1990s (old label)
