AN IVORY NETSUKE OF TEKKAI SENNINIvory netsuke. Japan, 18th centuryThis sennin is depicted in a lively manner as a beggar with characteristic leaf garment fluttering in the wind and a high cane, onto which a double gourd is attached. The long-haired anchorite and Taoist magician with a pointed chin beard appears jolly and seems to scouting the surrounding area in search of his soul, which has separated from his body.
