A THREE CASE LACQUER AND GOLD INRO OF A PALACE GARDEN SCENELacquer, horn and gold inro, lacquer ojime. Japan, late 18th centuryA finely rounded three case inro depicting five sages carved from partly transparent, yellowbrown to dark-brown horn on a large terrace. Everything else in relief is lacquer in takamaki-e, including decorations, blossoms, a blossoming tree, a banana tree and decorative rocks as well as the balustrade of the terrace with character Wan, the svastika meaning a long life. Very fine gold painting and gold nashiji, which is also on the interior. The ojime has a slightly flattened ovoid shape and is made from lacquer.
