A WOOD OKIMONO BY ROKKO OF EBISUWood okimono. Japan, Meiji periodAn excellently crafted, humorous work made from yellow tsuge wood in the style of Hokyodo Itsumin! Ebisu is the god of fishermen and merchants; his characteristic features include his cap and the Tai fish. He is also called the ‘laughing god’, which is what this okimono expresses in a lively manner. The fish is almost as large as Ebisu himself and putting up a tough fight. Probably just a tussle for fun, the deity is laughing gleefully. Signature RO-KO 六 甲 on the underside at the end of the robe. Condition: Very good condition Provenance: From an American private collectionHEIGHT 8.3 CM, LENGTH 11.8 CM
