The pipe consisting of a main section made of lacquered wood, with connecting pieces made of pewter, a silver ring with raised enamel decoration, the mouth piece and finial carved of ivory China, 19th century The finial is carved in the shape of hand holding the pipe-bowl, which is made of pewter with a copper inset, and a Yixing ceramic top with a meander border and a band with an inscription. The bottom of the hand shows a neatly incised ying yang symbol. The carving of the hand with its detailed fingernails shows a high level of both technical and artistic skills.
