HUNTING HORN / "OLIFANT", Portugal, probably ca. 1480. Ivory, octagonally carved, and silver mounts engraved with foliage and with a circumferential inscription: EL PODER EN DIOS. 2 eyelets. Fine cracks. L 40 cm. According to information provided by the former Director of the Victoria & Albert Museum, Dr. John F. Hayward, this horn belonged to the Dukes of Bragança and became part of the Collection of Lord Astor in Hever Castle around the turn of the century. --------------- JAGDHORN / OLIFANT, Portugal, wohl um 1480. Elfenbein oktogonal geschnittten sowie Silbermontierungen graviert mit Blattdekor und umlaufender Beschriftung EL PODER EN DIOS. 2 Ringösen. Feine Risse. L 40 cm. Laut mündlich überlieferten Abgaben des ehemaligen Direktors des Victoria&Albert Museums, Dr. John F. Hayward, stammt das Rufhorn aus dem Besitz der Herzöge von Braganza und gelangte um die Jahrhundertwende in die Sammlung von Lord Astor in Hever Castle.
