LADY'S DESK, Louis XV, signed M.E. LHERMITE (Martin Etienne Lhermite, maître 1753), Guild stamp, Paris ca. 1755/60. Tulipwood and rosewood in veneer and inlaid "en papillon" and with fillets and decorative frieze. Front with 1 drawer, hinged writing top lined with gold-stamped red leather with 1 compartment on each side. Bronze mounts and sabots. 90x49x73 cm. Rosenholz und Palisander gefriest sowie eingelegt "en papillon" und mit Filets und Zierfries. Geschweiftes, rechteckiges, randgefasstes und wenig vorstehendes Blatt auf wellig ausgeschnittener Zarge mit geschweiften Beinen. Front mit 1 Schublade, ein mit rotem, goldgeprägtem Leder und aufklappbares Schreibblatt zwischen 2 Fächern enthaltend. Bronzebeschläge und -sabots. 90x49x73 cm. Ein sehr ähnlicher Damen-Schreibtisch wurde bei Christie's Monte Carlo am 19.6.1999 (Katalognr. 78) verkauft. M. E. Lhermitte führte seine Werkstatt in der Rue de Charenton und erlangte seine Meisterwürde 1753. Seinen Stempel findet man auf Kommoden und Coiffeusen im Louis XV- sowie Transition- Stil. Ein zweitüriger Louis XV Schrank mit dekorativen Marketerien in Rosen- und Veilchenholz ist Teil der Sammlung des Musée des Arts et Decoratifs in Paris. Lhermitte arbeitete oft in Kommission für seinen Ebenistenkollegen Pierre Migeon, für den er unter anderem ein Nachttischchen "en cabaret" mit Blumenmarketerien herstellte. Eine "table à vanteaux", der mit den Stempeln beider Ebenisten bezeichnet ist, weist auf ihre Verbindung hin. LIT.: J.
