Pair of Qing Dynasty XianFeng Chinese famille-rose porcelain cups, with depiction of Red Fu-bats amidst gilt overglazed Shou characters and colorful floral motifs on turquoise green underglaze ground. Fu can be translated to mean bat, prosperity, good fortune, and can even delineate happiness. Deep curvature flaring upward to form the rim, with a slightly raised footing. The exterior masterfully depicts blooming foliage. The interior and concave central base contain white underglaze. A colloidal gold covers the upper rim. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous craftsman. Mark on base, a vertical six blue underglaze script -KaiShu- characters reign mark, XianFeng Reign Period of Great Qing Dynasty.
