The Dauntless was built in 1866 by Forsythe & Morgan in Mystic, Connecticut, and was owned by James Gordon Bennet of New York. The Coronet was built in 1885 by C. & R. Poillon, Brooklyn, New York, and was owned by R.T. Bush of New York.
