|Japan. Around 1750. Arita.|Porcelain, decorated in kakiemon enamel colours overglaze blue, iron red, green and gold. Round form on foot-ring with protruding sides and flat distinct scalloping rim. The centre shows a tiny blossom, surrounded by five little leaves, surrounded by four symmetrically arranged blossoming branches, on each blossoming plum branch alternating with blossoming aster. Along the thin, dark brown glazed rim a bordure of stylised, half blossom head with hanging leaves. Back redecorated. Ø 18.5cm. Eingraved inventory number of the royal porcelain collection of the Japanese Palais N 87 (before Johanneum-no.). Type cf. fig. 75. |Under inventory number N87 are 1779 four (apparently same-sized) kakiemon dishes mentioned. According to he present owner his great-granduncle the saxonian baron von Woehrmann, owned a couple of these dishes. The second, slightly damaged dish was sold some years ago. |Divergent from early kakiemon porcelain, the decor was composed symmetrical, which speaks for the attempt to compete with chinese 'famille-verte' porcelains from the same period.
