A Racehorse, probably Fearnought, with jockey up on a racecourse signed indistinctly with initials and dated 1732 lower left oil on canvas 61 x 74cm Footnote: Provenance: Presumably acquired by John (1811-1908) or Algernon Dunn Gardner (1853-1929) and thence by descent In his Anecdotes of Painting Horace Walpole wrote that Seymour "was thought even superior to Wootton in drawing horse" (first published, London, 1871, p. 353). Condition report: Oil on canvas which has been lined, there are general undulations and deformations across the surface. The paint layer is stable but is very worn and abraded in areas with areas of retouching across the surface. The varnish is slightly yellowed but even and glossy.
