Noro Kaiseki
(1747-1828)
Landscape with fisherman, 1825 (?)
Vertical hanging scroll painted in ink on paper, 32 x 21 cm
Signed and dated in the upper right corner with seal; silk frame.
Provenance: Italian private collection.
A pupil in Kyoto of Ike Taiga (1723-1776), one of the leading exponents of the Nanga School that promoted a style inspired by Chinese painting, Kaiseki was born in Wakayama. In the last days of his life he extensively travels in the country, producing small compositions like the one presented here, which clearly reveals the influence of traditional Chinese painting.
