Dimensions: 9.875"L x 7.25"H Chinese Ming Dynasty Period, Jiajing blue & white dragon motif porcelain lidded box. Stoutly potted Chinese porcelain unto a slightly flattened round box, with rounded wide cavetto, globular, flori form carved, slight tall, correspondence dome lid, raised from rounded sides over a wide cavetto Inner flange circumscribed around the containers lip allows for a perfect fitment of the covering. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white under glaze base color which contrast against the cobalt blue fine color. The dome lid and the lower belly adorned with snarling huge imperial five claws dragon careening through cumulus clouds above thrashing Li-shui waves in a dark blue color dragon squama to chasing flaming pearl amidst flames, enclosed with scrolling interlocking ruyi clouds and double fine rings. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-Shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned. Mark on under base, a vertical six under glazed blue script characters reign mark, enclosed within double fine rings, JiaJing Reign Period of Great Ming Dynasty.
