Dimensions: 12-1/2" H x 5-1/4" W Chinese Qing Dynasty Period, Yongzheng douqing glazed porcelain Zong vase. Thick potted, squared body, with circle opening mouth and base, raised on shallow foot. Essentially tubes with a square cross-section and a circular hole, having rib molded corners in form of a traditional hair pin along the sides stacked as modules, one atop another. The exterior reserved in celadon glaze ground. Decorated in Douqing hand painting, all reserved in pale-turquoise- pale green celadon underglaze ground, the green glaze creates a mottled effect around the rim which is likened unto the blushing of human pale white skin. The immaculate porcelain body covered with a characteristic silky glaze, amazing crackling effect throughout the underglaze which produces fantastic a smooth textured surface. The shape of the Zong with its square and circular shape could be interpreted as 'the unity of heaven and earth' where the square represents the earth and a circle represents the heaven. The color is balanced, elegant and exquisite. The whole piece is raised on a small disk-shaped foot. The glaze terminates just before the end of the base revealing a dark charred clay. This piece displays a subtle sheen as the light ricochets across the finely glazed exterior. Mark on under base, a six underglaze blue seal script characters reign mark, Yongzheng Reign Period of Great Qing Dynasty.
