PROVENANCE: From the Collections of Franklin Wood (1924-2019) Cartersville, GA. Franklin was born in a small farmhouse near White GA in 1924. After spending his early childhood on the family farm the family moved to the City of Cartersville where he attended school graduating in 1942. Franklin entered the Navy as a cadet aviator. On March 3, 1943, John was commissioned an Ensign and received his Wings of Gold, becoming one of the Navy's youngest naval aviators. In 1947, Franklin was retired from the Navy. He was a civilian flight instructor, supervisor and squadron commander in the Primary Training Squadron Flying Training Air Force. He met his wife Ying Su while she was attending flight training safety courses. Ying Su came from a prominent family in China. Her family blessed her marriage with numerous pieces of porcelains and Jade. The items in this sale are from her collection. Dimensions (cm): Diameter: 24 Height: 21 Chinese Ming Dynasty Period Blue & white Dragon Motif Jar. This porcelain jar has an open mouth with a slightly out-turned lip, and the short neck leads to a convex bulging belly with a restrained bottom. The exterior wall is ornamented by two dragons with forward head, arched body, and raised tail. The dragon has thin outline and natural form. The ceramic body is exquisite and closely combined with the glaze which is as bright as glass, makes the ware very beautiful. The round cake-like bottom is well trimmed and well-made. The foot base rim reveals the cut edges during the making process, the base left unglazed with grayish creme-brown ground and dark spots of firing marks.
