Dimensions: Height: 30cm, Width: 38cm Chinese 20th Century Republic Period, Qian Songyan mountain landscape painting scroll. In vertical rectangular. Hand painted with mountains, water fall, sampan boat, dense tree, Lishui rivers, and some folk walk on the path. In folk religion each mountain has its own deity associated with it. Mountain is one of the eight trigrams in Feng Shui and Yi Jing. Of these Taishan is considered the most important and stones from the mountain were often placed in towns across China as a lucky charm. It is made smartly, showing gentle and natural features. Qian Songyan 1898-1985, a native of Yixing, Jiangsu Province, learned painting from his father when young. He graduated in 1923 from the Jiangsu Provincial No. Three Normal College. After 1949, he taught at art academies in Suzhou and Wuxi. He represents the New Nanjing Art Style. He was executive director of the Association of Chinese Artists, Honorary Chairman of the Jiangsu Branch of the Association of Chinese Artists, and President of the Jiangsu Academy of Chinese Painting. in addition he was elected to be a representative in the National Peoples Congress for many years.
