A Chinese Blue and White Bowl Of circular section, the deep rounded sides rising from a short straight foot to a gently flaring rim, decorated in shades of underglaze blue, painted to the exterior with two panels illustrating courtship scenes from the Romance of the Western Chamber (Xixiang ji), the inner rim with four cartouches containing fruit reserved against a dense diaper pattern ground, the well painted with a roundel depicting three boys playing, the glazed base with the six-character mark of Chenghua within a double circle in underglaze blue. Period: Kangxi (1662‑1722). Diameter: 21 cm.
