A former Austro-Hungarian garnet and diamond beetle brooch, c.1870, with carved garnet elytra. A row of graduated cushion shaped Swiss cut diamonds between, with a graduated rose cut diamond set pronotum and head, with cabochon green paste set eyes. Rose cut diamond set antenna and legs, all set in silver and backed in gold, with a detachable brooch pin, one leg deficient. Austrian assay marks for 0.580 standard, 1872 to 1922, for Vienna. Approximately 30 x 18mm, 12.70g Condition report: Dirty, tarnished. Claws to the wing casing needs tightening up. Possible historic repairs to the underside where the claws attach. Soft solder repairs tot he one leg. Front right leg deficient.
