A metal-inlaid gold-lacquer four-case inro By a member of the Kajikawa Family, Edo period (1615-1868), circa 1800 The gold-lacquer ground decorated in hiramaki-e and takamaki-e with kirikane accents, depicting Choryo (Chinese: Zhang Liang) crossing a bridge on horseback, holding the scroll gifted to him by Kosekiko (Chinese: Huangshigong), Kosekiko kneeling towards Choryo under a pine tree grasping his retrieved shoe, the dragon who saved Choryo from the river looking up at him from the waves, Choryo and Kosekiko inlaid in soft metal; signed Kajikawa saku (Made by Kajikawa). 8.7cm (3 7/16in) high. 注脚 Provenance: Formerly in a Belgian aristocratic collection, subsequently in the same family in France and England.
