Six fuchi-gashira (hilt collars and pommels) Edo period (1615-1868), 18th to 19th century Three of shakudo nanako, one of shibuichi, and one of brass, decorated in a variety of chiselling and inlay techniques, the first with cranes and flowering prunus tree; the second with crows, a perch, the moon, and clouds; the third of quails and autumn plants, signed Sonobe Yoshihide (1805-1864) with a kao; the fourth with the moon, bamboo, oxen, ox-herder, and a tree, signed Masayasu (d.1790) with a kao; the fifth a raptor in a flowering prunus tree while a monkey cowers behind the tree trunk, with signature Iwamoto Ryokan; the kashira with pheasants, the unassociated fuchi with horses, signed Yanagawa Naomitsu (1733-1809) with a kao.
