MAEDA CHIKUBOSAI II (1917−2003) Showa era (1926-1989), circa 1960-1990 'Sunlight' openwork bamboo flower basket, susudake (smoked timber bamboo), rattan, lacquer; two layers of thinly split culms forming a diagonal pattern but not plaited, secured with rattan to four horizontal rings of bamboo; twining; chrysanthemum plaiting (base); wrapping, knotting; facetted and lacquered bamboo otoshi (water holder), signed Chikubosai kore o tsukuru (Chikubosai made this); with a wood tomobako storage box titled and signed Yoko hanakago Chikubosai (Sunlight Flower Basket, Chikubosai) and with a seal Chikubosai. 33.5cm (13 3/16in) high. (3). 注脚 A native of Sakai City, Osaka, Chikubosai II studied under his father, Chikubosai I, and Yamamoto Chikuryosai I (Shoen), becoming an independent artist in 1941 and succeeding to the Chikubosai name in 1950. He was named a Living National Treasure in 1995.
