A wood okimono of a goat and kid By Furukawa Choen (born 1826), Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th century The adult resting with its head raised to the left while its offspring nestles closely to its parent's side for comfort; signed beneath in a rectangular lacquer reserve Furukawa Choen. 19.5cm x 24cm (7 5/8in x 9½in). 注脚 Better known as a carver of dolls and figures for mikoshi (festival floats), here Choen carves a naturalistic animal sculpture in typical mid-Meiji style.
