A wood choba dansu (merchant's chest) Edo period (1615-1868) or Meiji era (1868-1912), 19th century Of polished elm wood and constructed in two separate sections, each section with cast iron fittings and side handles, the top section with hinged double doors opening to reveal a single large rectangular drawer above two open shelves and four small rectangular drawers, the lower section with a single large drawer above two slatted sliding doors, opening to reveal six small square drawers on the right-hand side with two larger square drawers below an open shelf on the left; unsigned; with accompanying set of keys. 75.5cm x 44.1cm x 112.5cm (29¾in x 17 3/8in x 40 3/8in).
