A gold-lacquer and Shibayama-inlaid hexagonal tea jar and cover Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century The six-sided body set on six low, bracket feet decorated in typical Shibayama style with six panels depicting an exotic parrot or eagle perched on an elaborate stand alternating with seasonal flowers, fitted with a simulated circular brocade cover, the cover embellished with conch shells interwoven among stylised butterflies, with an integral gold-lacquer inner lid, and surmounted by a circular finial with a ho-o bird roundel; unsigned. 13.5cm (5¼in) high.
