A bronze okimono of an eagle By Kaneya, Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th century Naturalistically rendered, fixed on a bronze stand modelled as a rocky outcrop, its wings outstretched preparing for flight, its legs bronze gilt with shakudo talons, the beak of shakudo, the eyes of shakudo and gilt bronze; signed beneath its tail in an oval reserve in hiragana script Kaneya saku. Overall height: 66cm (26in) high; wingspan: 73cm (28¾in) wide; the stand: 30.5cm (12in) high.
