A pair of cloisonné-enamel squat pear-shaped vases By the Hayashi workshop, Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century Each worked in silver wire with opaque and translucent enamels with details flecked with aventurine, the neck with stylised, repeated foliate motifs within three-stepped cruciform cartouches and butterflies on a ground of karakusa ('Chinese grasses'), the shoulder with shishi (Chinese mythical lions) and ho-o birds enclosed within lobed rectangular cartouches above shield-shaped panels of mythological dragons alternating with phoenixes, the rim and foot of silver; each stamped on the base in silver wire with the lozenge-seal mark of the Hayashi workshop. Each vase: 18cm (7 1/16in) high. (2).
