A Satsuma reticulated ovoid vase By Okamoto Ryozan, Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century Finely decorated in enamels and gilt with a central wide band across the body depicting a continuous procession of disparate classes and professions including samurai, torioi musicians and dancers, strumming their shamisen, elegant ladies with their attendants and itinerant street performers, the shoulder and foot with richly decorated overlapping, swirling brocade; signed on the base Ryozan beside the characteristic Shimazu crest. 18cm (7 1/16in) high.
