Anonymous Edo period (1615-1868), early/mid 19th century Sumo Wrestlers; kakejiku, ink and colours on silk in silk mounts, the jikusaki (scroll ends) carved in red lacquer, depicting two sumo champions confronting one another before a bout, at right Tanikaze Kajinosuke (1750 -1795), at left perhaps his great rival Onogawa Kisaburo (1758-1806), the umpire crouching behind them, each with an assistant carrying a sword with a long hilt, unsigned; with a plain wood storage box.
