Kitagawa Utamaro (1753-1806) Edo period (1615-1868), late 18th/early 19th century Two oban tate-e prints: the first of the courtesan Fujie of the Nakamanjiya from the series Yukun gosseku (Courtesans of the Five Festivals), published by Maruya Jinpachi, censor's seal kiwame, signed Utamaro hitsu, 36cm x 24.3cm (14 1/8in x 9 9/16in) ; the second probably a middle sheet from a triptych depicting a man and women making ricecakes for New Year, published by Tsuruya Kiemon, signed Utamaro hitsu, 33cm x 22.5cm (13in x 8 7/9in); all framed and glazed.
