Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) Taisho era (1912-1926), dated 1921 An oban tate-e print, titled along the left margin Teradomari no yau (Evening Shower at Teradomari) from the series Tabi miyage dai nishu (Souvenirs of Travel, Second Series) depicting in the foreground a lone man hunched beneath a straw raincoat, reminiscent of Hiroshige, heading home in the torrential rain along a deserted path, walking past dimly lit timber-built inns, dated Taisho ju, hachi, nijushichi (27 August, Taisho 10 [1921]), published by Watanabe Shozaburo, with a round Watanabe seal at the bottom right corner; signed Hasui with the artist's pre-earthquake diamond Kawase seal. 38.5cm x 26.5cm (15 1/16in x 10 3/8in).
