A late 19th century Armenian silver and niello chatelaine, Van circa 1880 Composed of two sections with double belcher chain links from opposable coiled wire work sections. The upper section of shaped triangular form with three circular holes, one side with engraved foliage the other with interlaced arches each with niello, the middle section with a niello scene of Van town wall, the opposing side with an Ottoman Turkish Tughra of Sultan Abdul Hamid II (1876-1909), within crossed laurel and foliage. The lower section with ten suspended chains, five with filigree work ovoid pendants, the other five with suspension loops. Marked with the combination town mark and standard mark ٨٤, to each section and across each section of the chains. Length – 23 cm / 9.05 inches Weight – 118 grams / 3.79 ozt
