A late 19th century Armenian 900 standard silver and niello tobacco box, Van circa 1880 Of rectangular form with rounded edges, the hinged lid raised by a simple thumbpiece. The lid with niello decoration of a stamp with the Ottoman Turkish tughra, a floral spray and an imitation postage mark saying VAN, all against a woven pattern. The sides and base also with woven pattern, the underside with folding to resemble an envelope and a bouquet of flowers. The interior of the lid and the base stamped for Van and standard mark (۹۰۰).
