A cased Nicholas II late 19th century Russian 84 zolotnik silver smoker’s compendium set, the cigar box, Saint Petersburg 1888 by Johan Ferdinand Olsonius for Grachev Brothers Of rectangular form with a hinged lid, satinised service, engraved gilt decoration of the Imperial eagle, arabesques and strap work with various Russian text, gilt interior. Marked underneath with chetvernik for Ivan Vonifatiyevich Yevstigneyev. Together with a plain cigarette case, possibly by MH and an ova cross section vesta case by PJS (unidentified). Housed in a birch case branded for Grachev. Cigar box length – 19.3 cm / 7.8 inches Weight – 823 grams / 26.46 ozt Johan Ferdinand Olsonins (Finnish 1823 – 1888) was apprenticed in 1842, master in 1852 (Mark: Postnikova 1770), supplied the firm of Grachev. Gavrill Petrovich Grachev founded the company in 1866, at his death in 1873 his sons Mikhail, Simon and Grigory took over the company and renamed it into Grachev Brothers. From 1886 the firm was made official supplier of the King of Denmark and in 1892, the firm was awarded the title of purveyor of the Imperial Court and was permitted use the Imperial Warrant.
